CEOL ‘10 on sale now!
Friday, March 5th 2010 sees the launch of CEOL ’10: SÚIL SIAR, the highly anticipated Irish language compilation album produced by Seachtain na Gaeilge with all proceeds going to the charity Barnardos.
CEOL is an innovative & imaginative approach to promote our native language through music. Not content with storming up the charts with their hits sung in English, Irish musicians have taken up the invitation in their droves from Seachtain na Gaeilge to chime out their tunes ‘as Gaeilge’. Five previous critically acclaimed albums have been produced with the albumCeol ‘08 hitting No.1 in the Irish charts.
This year CEOL ’10 – Súil Siar, takes a look back at some of the hugely popular songs and artists that have translated their tunes for CEOL over the past five years, including: The Swell Season performing their Oscar winning song ‘Falling Slowly’; legendry Scottish singer-songwriter Eddi Reader with her hit ‘Perfect’ as well as The Coronas, Bell X1, Gemma Hayes, Luan Parle, Mundy, The Saw Doctors, Kíla and many more. (Full track listing below)
Speaking about recording their Oscar winning track in Irish for the CEOL album Glen Hansard said, “Falling Slowly has done a lot for us. Made us proud parents and taken us to the world. So it makes total sense to sing it in our native tongue. I’m thrilled we got the opportunity and that we were given the challenge!”
Orla Nic Shuibhne, Bainisteoir Sheachtain na Gaeilge says the success of the CEOL albums in recent years has had a huge impact on the language, “With artists the calibre of the Swell Season, Eddi Reader & The Coronas performing on our albums, it not only benefits our chosen charity Barnardos but also raises the profile of the Irish language, connecting people with their native tongue and bringing it to life through the hugely powerful medium of music.”
Ceol ’10 will be available from all good music outlets from March 5th.

Éist a ghrá
Éist a ghrá tá a lán a’am le rá
Tuigim do dheacracht is do himní mo ghrá
Ní fhéadfadh míle focail cabhrú liom
Ach gealaim duit anois oibreoidh sé dom
Táim níos láidre leat ar mo chliatháin
Is tú mo h-aingil ’s tusa amháin
Feictear rudaí ag eitilt go h-ard
Ní fhéadfhadh fad scoilt a chur in ár ngrá
So ná h-imigh, mo chroí chomh lag,
As mo cheann, as mo radharc ach ní riamh ó m’aigne
Anois tá’s a’am gurb é an rud is deacra bheith ag
breathnú ort imeacht
tú ag imeacht
tú ag imeacht
tú ag imeacht
Éist a stór is lig dom míniú
A lán mí-cheart gan milleán ar bith
Táim casta gur chríochnaigh sé chomh bog
Briseadh idir eadrainn, briseadh beag
Táim chomh soineanta gur chreid mé go binn
Go mbeadh gach rud ceart i gceann ocht mí
Mar a deirtear cruthóidh seo muid go buan
Ach ’sé lá amháin lá ró-fhada dúinn
Só ná h-imigh, mo chroí chomh lag,
As mo cheann, as mo radharc ach ní riamh ó m’aigne
Anois tá’s a’am gurb é an rud is deacra bheith ag
breathnú ort imeacht
tú ag imeacht
tú ag imeacht
tú ag imeacht
So ná h-imigh, mo chroí chomh lag,
As mo cheann, as mo radharc ach ní riamh ó m’aigne
Anois tá’s a’am gurb é an rud is deacra bheith ag
breathnú ort imeacht
tú ag imeacht
tú ag imeacht
tú ag imeacht
