Ceol 09

Following the phenomenal success of this year’s Seachtain na Gaeilge, Friday, March 27th sees the launch of Ceol ’09 the highly anticipated Irish language compilation album produced by Seachtain na Gaeilge with all proceeds going to the charity Barnardos.
Amongst the artists translating their tunes this year for Ceol ‘09 are The Swell Season who perform their Oscar winning song ‘Falling Slowly’; Choice Music nominee Mick Flannery singing ‘Tomorrow’s Papers’; legendry Scottish singer-songwriter Eddi Reader with her hit ‘Perfect’ as well as Cathy Davey, Ham Sandwich, Camille O Sullivan, John Spillane, Duke Special and many more. (Full track listing below)
Speaking about recording their Oscar winning track in Irish for the Ceol ’09 album Glen Hansard said, “Falling Slowly has done a lot for us. Made us proud parents and taken us to the world. So it makes total sense to sing it in our native tongue. I’m very happy we got the opportunity and that we were given the challenge!”
Orla Nic Shuibhne, Bainisteoir Sheachtain na Gaeilge feels the success of the Ceol albums in recent years has had a huge impact on the language, “With artists the calibre of the Swell Season, Mick Flannery & Cathy Davey performing on an album like this, it not only adds greatly to the profits for our chosen charity Barnardos but also raises the profile of the Irish language, connecting people with their native tongue through the hugely powerful medium of music.”
Ceol 09 is available on iTunes now. Listen to selected tracks on MySpace!
